Description

Explore a beautiful ice cave and hike a spectacular glacier on this winter tour from Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. This incredible opportunity should not be missed by any travelling to the south-east of the country between November and March.

The excursion begins at Iceland’s ‘crown jewel’, Jökulsárlón. This glacier lagoon is Iceland’s deepest lake, filled with great icebergs which have broken from a glacial tongue and home to many seabirds and seals. Your guides will meet you in the car park, where you’ll board a minibus, setting out for Vatnajökull glacier.

After a short drive up the ice cap, you will get out for the glacier hiking component of your tour. Your guide will provide you with all equipment and lead you onto the beautiful landscape of snow and ice.

As you explore and marvel over the views, they can answer your questions about Iceland and the glaciers.

Follow your time here, you will head over to the ice cave.

Once you reach your destination, things will only become more awe-inspiring. The world inside an ice cave feels like it was taken from the pages of fantasy; the colouration of deep blues and gleaming whites are stunning, and the textures and formations of the ice are otherworldly.

You’ll spend an hour inside the cave, providing plenty of chances to explore and fill your camera’s memory card. Once you have had your fill, you’ll hike back to the minibus and be driven back to Jökulsárlón. You will then have plenty of time to admire the glacier lagoon and its adjacent Diamond Beach, where the icebergs wash onto the shore.

It should be noted that ice caves are weather dependent and are only accessible in the freezing cold temperatures of winter when there has not been any rainfall. Check the day before to ensure the tour is going ahead, and if it isn’t, you’ll be able to reschedule for another day.

Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to explore the ethereal world inside one of Iceland’s ice caves. Check availability by choosing a date.
