Description

Hop on the bus to journey to one of Iceland's most breathtaking natural sights—the highly popular Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon. This tour, which includes an immersive boat trip, is for anyone who would like to spend time absorbing the unique and picturesque landscapes of the South Coast.

You'll be picked up in the morning from your designated pickup location in central Reykjavik and spirited down the South Coast. The South Coast is a treasure trove of beautiful sights. You'll pass grassy fields dotted with sheep and horses, cascading waterfalls, and waves of purple lupine covering crags of black rock.

You will stop at the small village of Vok, a lovely place to stop for coffee, browse for souvenirs, and take a short walk to stretch your legs.

Next, you'll pass by the largest glacier in Iceland, Vatnajokull, as you make your way to Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon. The lagoon is a favorite amongst nature lovers and photography enthusiasts who flock to Iceland each year to catch the icebergs in all their glory.

The ice here is white on one side from fresh snow but a brilliant crystalline blue on the bottom, where oxygen bubbles have been crushed into the layers of ice over time. The lagoon's size increases slightly yearly as climate change increases the amount of meltwater pouring down to the coast.

The Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon is the deepest lake in Iceland at 250 m (280 ft) deep. Boat tours of the lagoon are a popular pastime for visitors, and you will enjoy a spin around the water for a close-up view of the magical ice and happy seals playing in the water.

The vessel you use will be amphibious, so you'll board it on land, and it will drive in and out of the water, adding to the excitement of the tour.

You can also have lunch at the Lagoon Service Center or walk to nearby Diamond Beach to admire the chunks of ice that have washed up on the black sand shores. On your return to Reykjavik, you'll also visit the waterfall Seljalandsfoss.

Seljalandsfoss is famous for the cavern behind it. In clear weather, you can circle the cascade and get beautiful views and photographs from behind it.
