The beautiful midnight sun in Iceland
The sun sure knows how to put on a spectacle in Iceland! Last night the sunset/sunrise was incredibly beautiful.
I went out to see a movie last night at 10pm. I went to see the Icelandic film Hrútar - or 'Rams' in English, a very Icelandic film about two old brothers that don't speak to each other and who love their sheep. The movie got an award at Cannes Film Festival recently - Un Certain Regard award - and I must say that I really enjoyed it! It's very funny and typically Icelandic, I think it's a very interesting film for foreigners to see! It's shown every day at HáskólabÃó cinema at 5:30 pm with English subtitles if you want to check it out.
When I left the cinema, just after midnight, I was greeted by an incredibly beautiful sky. It was so pretty that I rushed home to get a camera and then strolled around ReykjavÃk's city pond trying to capture some of it on a picture. I'm not a professional photographer so I maybe didn't do the best of jobs - but here you can see what regular pictures, that haven't been photoshopped one bit, made by a local on a regular summer night in ReykjavÃk look like! :)
I wasn't the only one taking pictures, people driving past would stop their cars and take out their phones to get some pictures. I even bumped into a friend I haven't seen in a couple of years that was cycling past and stopped to take a picture.
The reflection on the city pond was irresistibly picturesque!
Actually, the sunsets / sunrises (there's such short time in between the two that they kind of merge into each other these days) in Iceland are very frequently stunning. I took this picture 3 days ago from NauthólsvÃk beach in ReykjavÃk. I've traveled quite a lot around the world and seen a lot of sunsets - but I always find the most stunning sunsets in the summertime in Iceland as they last for so long!
