Description

Experience the unforgettable beauty along Iceland's most celebrated tourist route in this Golden Circle tour. This nine-hour private tour takes travelers to natural attractions and historical locations, including a snowmobiling adventure on Langjokull glacier.

The adventure begins when an experienced and friendly guide picks you up from your Reykjavik accommodation. You'll then ride a comfortable minibus that will take you around the Golden Circle and the different stops along the way. The Golden Circle covers approximately 186 miles (300 kilometers) and features three main attractions: Thingvellir National Park, the Geysir geothermal area, and the Gullfoss waterfall.

Thingvellir National Park, your first stop for the day, is one of Iceland's most significant historical and geological landmarks. The park covers an area of about 93 square miles (240 square kilometers) and was hailed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for many reasons.

Historically, Thingvellir National Park is where the world's oldest parliament, Althingi, was established in 930 AD. Geologically, it sits on the boundary between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. You'll also find dramatic cliffs, clear glacial springs, and rugged lava fields in the area.

Your next stop is Gullfoss, one of Iceland's most iconic waterfalls. Gullfoss, or "Golden Falls," is renowned for its stunning beauty and powerful flow. You'll notice that Gullfoss waterfall consists of two stages: an upper cascade dropping 36 feet (11 meters) and a lower one plunging 69 feet (21 meters) into a rugged canyon.

Several viewpoints, accessible via well-maintained paths, offer different perspectives of the cascading waters. On sunny days, rainbows form in the waterfall's mist, while in winter, Gullfoss waterfalls freeze and showcase many ice formations.

After you enjoy the beauty of Gullfoss waterfall, the guide will take you to the Geysir geothermal area. Located in the Haukadalur Valley, the area is famous for being the home of two important geysers: the Great Geysir and Strokkur.

The Great Geysir's activity dates back to the 13th century, and it was once capable of erupting boiling water up to 230 feet (70 meters) into the air. Today, however, the Great Geysir is mostly dormant.

On the other hand, the nearby Strokkur geyser erupts every 5-10 minutes, shooting boiling water up to 65 feet (20 meters) into the air. Sometimes, its eruptions reach as high as 98 feet (30 meters).  Aside from these two geothermal wonders, you'll also see steaming vents, bubbling mud pots, and other vibrant hot springs.

From the geothermal area, you'll have your lunch at the Geyser Bistro. Alternatively, you can head back to the Gullfoss waterfall area for lunch at Gulfoss Cafe. In Gullfoss, you'll also ride a different vehicle that will take you to Langjokull glacier. Iceland's second-largest ice cap, Langjokull glacier spans approximately 367 square miles (950 square kilometers) in the western Highlands.

Upon reaching the glacier, you'll wear safety equipment, such as insulated overalls, helmets, and gloves, before riding a snowmobile across the ice. The thrill of snowmobiling on Langjokull lies not only in the speed and excitement but also in the breathtaking surroundings.

You must be a valid driver to operate a snowmobile, but you can take non-drivers as passengers.

Gliding over the ice, you'll be treated to panoramic views of the surrounding highlands, distant mountain peaks, and the glacier's stunning blue ice formations. At the end of the tour, you'll ride the minibus back to your hotel in Reykjavik.

Take advantage of this opportunity to explore the Golden Circle and ride a snowmobile across Langjokull glacier in this nine-hour private tour. Check availability now by choosing a date.
