Description

Embark on an adventurous scuba-diving tour in the magnificent Thingvellir National Park and discover the beauty of the Silfra fissure. Certified divers who want to experience the incredible visibility of the glacial meltwater in the Mid-Atlantic Ridge will love this scuba tour, which includes two dives.

The excursion begins at your accommodation in Reykjavik, where an expert local guide will collect you.

You'll travel together from Reykjavik to Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and place of cultural and geological significance in Iceland. Driving to the site, you can ask your guide questions about the park.

This tour has a maximum of three guests per guide, ensuring everyone can enjoy a personal and safe diving experience.

The excursion is only suitable for experienced divers. You must bring the relevant certificates and logbook to prove you have the necessary qualifications.

Participants must hold an Open Water Diver certification or higher and a Drysuit certification (or a minimum of 10 logged drysuit dives), including at least one drysuit dive within the last two years.

On arrival at Thingvellir National Park, you'll receive a top-quality drysuit to wear while diving. These suits help you stay warm and dry in the cold Icelandic waters.

At about 10:30, you'll be ready for your first dive in the Silfra fissure, which is in the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. This fissure marks the boundary between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates.

The fissure is filled with glacial meltwater that filters through lava formations, leaving it crystal clear.

Visibility here is up to 330 feet (100 meters) in all directions. As you dive, you'll enjoy unparalleled clarity and admire the underwater views surrounding you. Diving here is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you'll remember forever.

After your first dive, take a break to warm up with some hot chocolate and cookies while resetting your diving equipment. Then, an hour later, it's time to gear up for your second dive in David's Crack (Davidsgja in Icelandic).

David's Crack is in the Thingvallavatn lake, in the heart of the national park. Its water is slightly warmer than the Silfra fissure, and, once again, you'll have exceptional visibility.

You might even encounter local trout swimming alongside you as you explore the mystical waters.

Following the second dive, change out of your gear, pack up, and log your dives before beginning the journey back to Reykjavik. You'll arrive back in the city in the late afternoon, leaving plenty of time for other activities in the evening if you want.

Explore the crystal-clear waters of the Silfra Fissure and David's Crack on this exciting diving tour in the Thingvellir National Park. Check availability now by choosing a date.

Good to know

Please note, only participants with an Open Water certification and Drysuit certification from any internationally recognized dive agency can take part in this tour (e.g., PADI, SSI, CMAS, NAUI).

In the winter, if the temperature falls below 32 F (0 C), guests will do one extended dive instead of two. This is because the dive equipment will freeze up on exiting the water.

All participants must read, fill out, and sign the medical statement. All participants 60 years and older need to bring a signed physician's approval to join the tour. You must be over 18 to join.
