Description

Witness one of East Iceland’s most fascinating natural wonders before getting up close and personal with the country’s wildlife on this immersive day tour of Studlagil canyon and The Reindeer Park. This seven-hour adventure is perfect for travelers looking to experience beautiful geological formations and some of Iceland’s most majestic animals.

The day begins at the Filling Station/Food Coop at Seydisfjordur, where a friendly local guide will meet you. You will then ride a comfortable minibus that will take you to your first stop: the Jokuldalur valley.

Located south of the Tungnafellsjokull glacier and north of Hofsjokull glacier, the Jokuldalur valley is a common stop for travelers exploring the Icelandic Highlands. As you explore the valley, you’ll see rich vegetation, while the Tungnafell glacier and Vonarskard pass are just across the Mjohals mountain ridge. Also, the Jokuldalur valley features huts where travelers can relax and stay.

Next, you’ll head to nearby Rjukandi, one of Iceland’s tallest waterfalls. With a height of 305 feet (93 meters), the Rjukandi waterfall is a sight to behold. Due to its height, the Rjukandi waterfall can be seen from the road.

As you get closer to the Rjukandi, you’ll notice how the rocky structure divides the waterfall into several drops. Another key feature of the Rjukandi waterfall is the mist it produces. Because of its height, the mist often resembles steam or smoke.

Next, you will continue toward the first of the two main events for the day: the Studlagil canyon. The canyon is home to the largest number of basalt rock columns in Iceland. Formed by cooling lava over thousands of years, these geometric pillars rise dramatically from the river’s edge. Moreover, they further stand out because of the complementing beauty of the blue-green-colored glacial river.

You can stand at the edge of the Studlagil canyon to fully appreciate the beauty of the basalt columns. Be sure to take plenty of pictures of the canyon.

For your final stop, you’ll visit The Reindeer Park in the small town of Fellabaer, next to Egilsstadir. The Reindeer Park in Iceland offers a unique opportunity to observe reindeer up close. Here, you’ll learn about the reindeer’s history in the region and their natural habitat.

You’ll also meet Garpurr and Mossi, the two reindeer stars of The Reindeer Park. Interestingly, Garpurr and Mossi were rescued in 2021 and eventually grew to love humans.

After spending time with the reindeer, you’ll return to the minibus for the ride back to Seydisfjordur.

Grab this opportunity to witness the beauty of Icelandic nature and wildlife by booking this immersive private day tour. Check availability now by choosing a date.
