Description

Discover the beautiful sites of the South Coast and add some adventure to the day with a glacier hike by grabbing your place on this unique excursion. Anyone hoping to combine classic sightseeing with a thrilling activity should not hesitate to book!

Your guide will pick you up from a meeting point near your hotel before whisking you and your small group out into the stunning landscapes of south Iceland. En route to your first destination, you’ll pass diverse features such as a geothermal powerplant, the Westman Islands, and the Myrdalsjokull glacier.

Skogafoss waterfall will be your first stop. It is a breathtaking attraction and falls from a 60-meter tall cliff with enormous power, creating huge plumes of spray. You can walk right up to the cascade or see it from unique angles by climbing the adjacent staircase.

Next, you will head to the Solheimajokull ice cap, where your glacier hiking adventure will begin. Before leading you onto the snowy terrain ahead, your guide will equip you with a helmet, crampons, and ice ax. As you scale the slopes, you can marvel over ice walls, crevasses, and maybe even caves and enjoy some of the most spectacular views Iceland has to offer.

Your guide will tell you all about the science and future of the country’s glaciers and provide you with plenty of opportunities for photos.

After a thrilling trip, you’ll return from your excursion and continue your South Coast sightseeing journey. Your next destination is the black sand beach of Reynisfjara, renowned for its ominous atmosphere, powerful waves, and off-shore basalt towers of Reynisdrangar, said to be frozen trolls. From here, you can also see the enormous Dyrholaey rock arch curving into the ocean.

You’ll then stop at the village of Vik, Iceland’s southernmost settlement and a wonderful example of authentic, local culture, before heading to two more waterfalls. Seljalandsfoss is as tall as Skogafoss, and though much less powerful, falls before an enormous cavern, making it much more unique.

Finally, you’ll seek out the hidden waterfall of Gljufrabui, nestled in a cave within a cliff. Many travelers overlook this magical little spot, making it a fantastic last attraction for such an action-packed day. After you have enjoyed and photographed it, you’ll be dropped back off at your meeting point in Reykjavik.

Set out on a South Coast sightseeing adventure and spice up the day with an unforgettable glacier hike. Check availability now by choosing a date.
