Captivating 6-Hour Snorkeling Tour in Silfra Fissure by Drysuit with Transfer from Reykjavik
Description
Summary
Description
Come along on an adventure in Þingvellir National Park and go snorkelling between two continents. Those looking for a unique experience in Iceland should not let this opportunity pass them by.
Silfra is a fissure located in Þingvallavatn lake, and it was created by the separation of the North American and Eurasian continental plates. The crack fills with glacial spring water that has been seeping through underground lava rock for decades. This natural filtering system makes the water crystal clear and provides unparalleled underwater visibility for snorkellers.
This is also the only place in the world that you can snorkel between two tectonic plates. Iceland sits atop the mid-Atlantic Ridge, where the North American and the Eurasian tectonic plates separate. Silfra is precisely the point at which these two continents are tear apart in different directions. This beautiful underwater world is, therefore, one you will never forget.
Silfra fissure is located in Þingvellir National Park, a short drive from Reykjavík city. You will be picked up in a comfortable van and driven the scenic route to Þingvellir. If you'd rather meet your instructors on location, please check out Snorkelling Silfra Tour | Meet on Location.
The water is very cold—just above freezing—but the expert guides will dress you in a dry suit so that you don’t get wet. Thereafter, the guides show you the best technique to manoeuvre in the water and then lead you through Silfra’s four sections. Floating through this canyon, you will see vivid colours and an underwater landscape that are completely unique—in fact, they seem totally otherworldly!
After your time in the water, you will take off the dry suit and get a cup of hot chocolate with some cookies to warm you up.
