Small Group 10 Hour Tour of the Silver Circle with Canyon Baths, Waterfalls & Reykholt
Description
Summary
Description
Take the road less travelled with this thrilling Silver Circle sightseeing tour around the attractions of west Iceland, with an added bonus of hot spring bathing in an untouched wilderness. Travellers seeking to explore both famous sites and hidden gems, and to spend some time relaxing in geothermal waters, will find no better excursion.
You will start this adventure when your friendly guide picks you up from your hotel or nearby meeting point in Reykjavik. You will then be swept along the Ring Road, witnessing beautiful coastlines, mountains and countryside landscapes, to the first site of the Silver Circle.
Deildartunguhver is renowned for being Europe’s highest flowing hot spring; over 180 litres of boiling water surges up from the earth every second, the abundant steam from which creates a magical atmosphere. Not only is this a spectacular attraction, but it is also utilised for energy, providing hot water for many of the region’s towns and villages.
You will then travel to the popular waterfalls of Barnafoss and Hraunfossar. Barnafoss, the Children’s Waterfall, is a frothy rapid that charges down a narrow gorge; it is also associated with a tragic local tale that adds an ominous air to the site. Hraunfossar, meanwhile, is more of a series of gentle falls, pouring serenely over a 900-metre wide plateau of lava.
After marvelling over these wonderful attractions, you will get off the beaten track to locate some hidden gems that only Silver Circle travellers are privy to. First up is Husafell, a lush oasis sheltered by spectacular mountains and glaciers. Here, you can find abundant birch forests, marvel over the ice cap of Langjokull, and witness historic turf houses.
You’ll then travel to Langifoss, a majestic waterfall that pours in two steps into the far-flung canyon of Deildargil. Few maps even recognise the location of Langifoss, meaning you will most likely admire it without any other guests.
After this is the highlight of your tour, the Husafell Canyon Baths. These hot springs are like few others in Iceland, as they are little-known and without much infrastructure. As such, you can bathe in their healing geothermal waters surrounded by unbelievable landscapes like one of Iceland’s earliest settlers.
Once the revitalising minerals of the baths and uninterrupted views of a mountainous wilderness have full recharged you, you’ll head to the final site of this tour. The village of Reykholt is renowned for its history as the home of legendary medieval chieftain Snorri Sturluson; its beautiful church; and its historic geothermally heated pool of Snorralaug. This archaeological site was built about a millennium ago and is even mentioned in the Icelandic sagas.
After a wonderful day touring the best-known wonders and most remote hidden gems of west Iceland, you’ll return to Reykjavik.
Witness the incredible sites of the Silver Circle and bathe in the geothermal Husafell Canyon Baths surrounded by unmatched landscapes with this immersive tour. Check availability by choosing a date.
