Description

Embark on two thrilling Icelandic adventures in one day by snorkeling and horseback riding through this land’s spectacular natural wonders. Those eager to fill every moment of their holiday with fantastic activities will find this the perfect choice of excursion.

Your day starts when you are picked up by your friendly, local guide and they escort you to one of Iceland’s three national parks: Thingvellir. This breathtaking valley is best known for its history as a birthplace of modern democracy; its landscapes of lava, woodland, and waterways; its position between the tectonic plates; and the fact that it is home to one of the world’s best snorkeling locations.

You’ll park up near the magical ravine and freshwater spring of Silfra, where your guide will brief you on the journey and the equipment. Those who would rather stay dry, warm, and easily afloat will then be helped into their drysuits, whereas those who’d rather free-dive and have more flexibility can slip into their wetsuits. You’ll then grab your masks and fins, and head to the entrance.

As soon as you dip your head into Silfra, you’ll be breath-taken by its beauty. The visibility can exceed a hundred meters, the blues are unlike anything on earth, and the geology of an underwater world between the tectonic plates is mystical. As you drift through this incredible place on a gentle current, one of the guides will be diving beneath you, taking some magical photos for you to bring home.

Once you’ve traveled through the corridors, cathedral, and lagoon, you’ll return to the base to get dressed back into your normal clothes, no doubt still awe-stricken at this feat of nature.

The adventure, however, is not yet complete. Once your group is ready, you’ll be whisked through some beautiful countryside to Raudavatn - the Red Hills. This area boasts unique landscapes, with crimson rocks breaking through an otherwise mossy plain of lava, and has a dramatic backdrop, with many surrounding mountains.

Once here, you’ll head to the horse farm to meet your steed. Icelandic horses are gentle, curious, and intelligent creatures; this alongside their small stature makes them a joy to ride. Whether a novice or expert equestrian, you’ll be well looked after by your experienced guide and faithful mount as you explore the unusual wilderness.

After 1.5 to 2 hours trotting through the striking terrain of Raudavatn - and perhaps trying out the Icelandic horse’s unique gait, the tolt - you’ll return to the stables. Your guide will then escort you back to Reykjavik, where you can reflect on your incredible day.

Don’t miss two Icelandic adventures rolled into one with this snorkeling and horseback riding excursion. Check availability by choosing a date.
