This is the perfect opportunity for guests to Iceland looking to experience the serenity of natural, geothermally heated water, but are looking for a cheaper alternative to the larger Blue Lagoon Spa.
Secret Lagoon is the oldest man-made geothermal pool in Iceland, having been first constructed in 1891. Utilising the geothermal energy at the pool is just one of the many things that have put Flúðir on the map; today, it is a centre point for horticulture and green energy in Iceland. Secret Lagoon can be found in close proximity to Iceland's famous sightseeing route, The Golden Circle. Guests are encouraged to pay a visit to the Secret Lagoon whilst undertaking this fantastic trail.
The water at Secret Lagoon is 38-40° Celcius (100° Fahrenheit) all year long, making it a fantastic spot to take a dip regardless of the season. Bathing here will be entirely different in the summer months to winter given the seasonal changes that affect the lagoon's surrounding landscapes. Winter will see bathers looking up at the dancing Aurora Borealis,
Those who wish to take a break from bathing are free to enjoy the steaming fumaroles and bubbling hot pools that surround the lagoon's main pool. Doing this provides guests with a true insight into Iceland's geothermal underbelly, cementing in the mind as to just why Icelandic hot pools have become so famous worldwide. The Secret Lagoon even boasts a "mini-Geysir", erupting every five minutes, providing further interest for guests.
The Secret Lagoon also offers a bar and restaurant, changing rooms and showers; visitors who choose to sit beside the poolside will be able to appreciate the gigantic steam stacks that rise into the air from the lagoon's surface, creating a magical ambience to the area.
Children under the age of 14 get free admission to the pool but must be accompanied by an adult. Each adult can only be responsible for up to 3 children.
