Immersive Private Boat Tour of Fjallsarlon Glacier Lagoon on Zodiac | Meet on Location
Description
Summary
Description
Join an exciting adventure in Iceland aboard a zodiac boat and see the floating icebergs of the Fjallsarlon glacier lagoon. Those who want the convenience and flexibility of a private tour in the icy wilderness of Vatnajokull National Park, away from tourist crowds, should look no further than here.
Your Icelandic excursion begins as you meet your English-speaking guide on-site, near the Fjallsarlon glacier parking. This package does not include pick-up from Reykjavik, so you must arrange your transportation transfer from the capital city.
For your group’s safety and convenience, the guide will provide you with a specialized floating jacket and life vest. This mandatory clothing will also help you keep warm in the chilly temperatures of the area. The briefing and dressing time will take around 15 minutes.
Soon after, you’ll walk for around five minutes along moss-covered landscapes surrounded by massive ice sheets to reach the glacier lagoon and the boat.
As soon as you reach the Fjallsarlon lagoon, you will see breathtaking views of floating icebergs, the Oraefajokull volcano, and the glacier outlets of the Vatnajokull ice cap. The captivating scenery provides infinite photo opportunities.
You will be up close and personal with the hundreds of floating icebergs onboard a zodiac boat that can accommodate up to 10 people. Each iceberg has a unique shape, size, and color, slowly drifting into the water as they break off the nearby Fjallsjokull glacier.
If you’re lucky enough, you might even witness and hear the cracking sound of ice as it falls from the glacier’s edge.
As you marvel and take in the beautiful nature of Iceland, your expert guide will also provide you with information and insights about the lagoon and glacier. In addition, they will let you touch and taste the ice if you’re up for it.
Fjallsarlon is not a particularly famous feature of Vatnajokull. Although the attraction pales in comparison to the size of its more famous neighbor, the Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon, you can have a more peaceful boating adventure at Fjallsarlon because fewer tourists visit the smaller lagoon.
The fact that this is a private tour will also add to the tranquility.
After around 45 minutes of the boating tour in the Fjallsarlon glacier lagoon, your private tour ends. Before returning to Reykjavik or continuing your Icelandic trip, you may drop by the attraction’s Frost restaurant. They offer a great selection of buffet-style menus, from main courses to snacks and drinks.
While in the area, you will also have a chance to explore the thriving wildlife of Iceland, particularly birds and seals. During the summer months, a group of seabirds called skuas nest in the lagoon. However, you should observe them from a distance because they can get aggressive if they feel their eggs are threatened and will dive-bomb your head!
