Private 8-Hour Into the Glacier Ice Caving Tour with Waterfalls & Hot Springs from Reykjavik
Description
Summary
Description
Discover Iceland in both comfort and style with this private, luxury tour of West Iceland. Step inside ice cave tunnels in Iceland's second-largest glacier, Langjokull, before visiting some of the Borgarfjordur region's most spectacular waterfalls. Those wanting a unique holiday in Iceland should book this VIP sightseeing experience now.
Your day's adventure will begin with a pickup from your accommodation in Reykjavik city by a Mercedes Benz V-class luxury minivan. From there, you'll be whisked northwest along Road 1 on your way to the first destination, Langjokull, the second-largest glacier in Iceland.
Until now, what lies under the surface of the Langjokull glacier has been unknown to the public. But in 2010, a couple of Icelanders had a vision: to take people not just around and on top of the glacier but also inside the glacier ice cap so they could see the blue ice that rests deep inside the glacier.
Working to make this possible were engineers, geophysicists, and a presidential candidate. They made it possible to shape the biggest man-made ice cave tunnels and the first one accessible to the public.
You'll follow your guide through these intricate tunnels, witnessing first-hand the ever-changing environment of glaciers. You'll see countless rooms and halls built inside the glacier, including the 'chapel', where both weddings and concerts have been held.
On the way to the glacier, we will make a stop at Hraunfossar waterfalls. This cascade is an exceptionally beautiful and unusual natural pearl. The waterfall looks like it magically appears from within the lava, but it is a spring that surges through the ground and runs down into the Hvita river. The waterfall streams out of Hallmundarhraun, which is an ancient lava field created by an eruption from a volcano lying under the Langjokull glacier.
There is a hiking trail that leads from Hraunfossar to another nearby natural pearl, Barnafoss waterfall. This cascade is vastly different from Hraunfossar as it rushes fast through a dramatic canyon.
On the way back, you will stop at Krauma baths and the beautiful area of Deildatunguhver, Europe’s most powerful hot spring. The hot spring temperature is 212°F (100°C).
Krauma is a natural geothermal bath, spa, and restaurant that specializes in Icelandic cuisine from the freshest local farm-produced ingredients.
After a relaxing soak in the geothermal bath, you will end the day back in the city, where your private driver will conveniently drop you off at your accommodation in Reykjavik.
