Exhilarating 5-Hour ATV Tour of the Blue Lagoon and Reykjanes Lava Beach from Reykjavik

Your day tour in Iceland opens in the morning with a pick-up from your accommodation in Reykjavik. The closest tour bus stop to your hotel can also be your starting point.

Your group will be whisked away to the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa in Reykjanes to change buses and meet your friendly, experienced ATV guides. Then, you'll be taken to the ATV base five minutes away from the lagoon.

You'll get your ATV, protective outer layer, and safety equipment at the base camp. ATVs sit two people but require drivers to have a valid driver's license. Non-drivers can still join the fun as riders or passengers of the vehicle.

The fun starts as you whoosh down mountain roads in the direction of Festarfjall, a small mountain veiled in vivid orange, burnt sienna, and copper. Its unique slopes result from eons of volcanic activity that carved out the coastline on the Reykjanes peninsula. 

From there, you will explore the black sand beach of Selatangar, where you'll have a chance to get off the bike and search the old ruins. Selatangar was a fishing village before it was abandoned in the 1880s, and the tumbled stones there are the foundations of outbuildings on the beach. 

You may feel a shiver down your spine, not only because of the sea breezes but because of the lonely setting of this area. The area is said to be haunted by a malicious spirit named Tanga-Tómas. 

After this brief pause, you will continue the ride, speeding over Iceland's harsh, craggy, yet beautiful and brightly-hued terrain. 

After a two-hour ATV adventure, the guide will return you to the Blue Lagoon, where you can choose to soak away the exertions of the day in the warm, blue waters. 

If you would like to rest instead, or if you are excited to dive into the nightlife in funky Reykjavik, you can forego the Blue Lagoon and take the next bus back to the city.

Admission to the Blue Lagoon is not included in the price of this tour, but a visitor's pass can be purchased when you arrive there, subject to availability. The Blue Lagoon is a popular destination in Iceland, so pre-booking is encouraged.

Please note that the ATV adventure is approximately two hours long. With the roundtrip transportation from Reykjavik, the whole trip may take five hours.
