Description

Jump aboard a Super Jeep and explore the crown jewel of the Icelandic Highlands, Landmannalaugar. The world-famous region is renowned for its unbelievable beauty, incredible hiking trails, and dramatic diversity. This tour will show you Iceland at its absolute best.

You will be picked up in the morning from your preferred location. The limited number of available seats in the jeep means that your tour is sure to be personal, and its off-road capabilities allow Iceland’s more remote reaches to open up before you. Once your group is all gathered, you will hit the road towards the Highlands.

There will be many stops en route, to marvel over natural wonders that most overlook on their travels. First up is ‘the green valley’, Þjórsádalur, a stunning region with lush vegetation, strange lava formations, sparkling rivers and tumbling waterfalls.

After enjoying this area, you head to another falls, Hjálparfoss, which falls in two separate flumes that meet at its base. Hjálparfoss is framed by incredible basalt formations, and like all of the other lava in the area, these were created by the notorious volcano, Mount Hekla.

The next two stops are both beautiful lakes. The first, Hnausapollur, can be found inside a crater, surrounded by slopes of volcanic ash and filled with stunning, azure water. The second, Frostastaðavatn, is vast and serene; the incredible mountains that surround it reflect magnificently in its surface on a still day.

Finally, you will reach Landmannalaugar, and spend several hours hiking its many trails. There are paths suited to all ranges of abilities, so even amateur hikers can enjoy the area. This Highland region is bursting with colourful vistas and fascinating geological formations, and you will feel like you could spend a lifetime exploring its many wonders.

After you have enjoyed the hike, it is time to unwind. There is a natural hot bath nestled at the foot of the desolate Lagahraun lava field which is perfect for easing sore muscles after a decent walk.

Before leaving Landmannalaugar, you will visit one more crater lake. Ljótipollur is an incredible site, surrounded by slopes coloured such a vivid red that they look like they have been painted that way. It is not the last place you will see, however; on your way back to Reykjavik, you’ll make a final stop at the magnificent waterfall Háifoss, Iceland’s third tallest falls.

You will return to the city with a head full of memories and a camera full of photos. This tour is truly inspiring and will be loved by anyone with an appreciation for Iceland’s stark and diverse natural beauty.
