Your tour starts at the meeting point, a ski cabin in the mountains. When you arrive, you'll meet your expert English-speaking guides and the other guests on the tour.
You will be given a short briefing, and then it's time to set off. If it's raining, your guide will provide rain gear to keep you dry. Wear good hiking shoes, as the rocky trail can get wet and muddy.
To get to the volcano, there is a two-mile (three-kilometer) hike across a lava field which should take around 45 minutes. Along the way, you can enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding scenery.
The hike is relatively easy, and anyone with a good fitness level should be able to complete it.
When you arrive at the base camp, you can warm up with coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. You'll have a few minutes to rest after your hike, and your guide will tell you the safety procedures for going into the volcano.
Your guide will give you all the gear you'll need, including a helmet and a harness. From base camp, there is a steep incline to get to the top of the volcano.
At the top, you'll get into a lift and descend into the volcano's heart. You'll see vibrant rock colors created by mineral deposits.
The lift takes around seven minutes and gives you an incredible experience. Once inside the volcano, you can look around its stunning interior and take as many photos as you like. Your guide will answer any questions and tell you more about the lava chamber.
Iceland is one of the only places in the world you can explore inside a volcano, so this truly is a unique adventure that will leave you with lifetime memories.
After around half an hour, you'll leave the volcano. On the surface, you can enjoy a delicious traditional Icelandic lamb soup. Vegetarian and vegan alternatives are also available. Back at the base camp, you can warm up further with a hot drink.
You'll hike back across the lava field to the meeting point when ready. From here, you can drive back for more adventures in Iceland.
