- Thingvellir National Park
- Geysir geothermal area
- Gullfoss waterfall
- More
On the second day of your summer vacation in Iceland, you will tour the Golden Circle sightseeing route and enjoy some of the most amazing natural sights of Iceland, including the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Thingvellir National Park, the hot springs and geysers at Haukadalur geothermal area, and the beautiful Gullfoss waterfall.
The first stop is Thingvellir National Park. The park spans approximately 149 miles (240 square kilometers) and showcases a stunning landscape shaped by tectonic activity, where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet.
This geological wonder is evident in deep fissures, rugged cliffs, and crystal-clear lakes.
The park's significance also lies in its cultural history, as it served as Iceland's original parliament site from the 10th to 18th centuries. Today, visitors can explore the Althing assembly grounds and learn more about the nation's early governance.
Next on the list is Haukadalur geothermal area. Spread over a vast area, this geothermal field boasts a surreal landscape featuring bubbling hot springs, steaming fumaroles, and erupting geysers.
The most famous geyser in the area is Geysir, from which the English word "geyser" originates. Although Geysir is no longer active, Strokkur geyser erupts every few minutes.
The final stop on the Golden Circle sightseeing route is Gullfoss waterfall. Glacial waters plunge into a narrow gorge in this two-tiered cascade, creating a mesmerizing spectacle of raw power and natural beauty.
After spending time at these beautiful sites, you could add an activity to your itinerary today.
You could go on an adrenaline-fuelled trip to Langjokull glacier, and race snowmobiles over the vast white ice expanse. If you would rather relax in the saddle, take a ride on an Icelandic horse. You can also go snorkeling at Silfra gorge. Participants need to be comfortable in the water and be able to swim.
If you don't opt for a tour, you can head to the healing waters of the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa today instead. The Blue Lagoon geothermal spa is world-famous for its healing, mineral-rich waters.
Afterward, you'll head back to the city and spend another evening in Reykjavik.

Day 3 – Reykjavík
- Reykjavík
- More
- Seljalandsfoss Waterfall
- Skogafoss waterfall
- Reynisfjara black sand beach
- Reynisdrangar Sea Stacks
- More
On the third day of your summer vacation in Iceland, you will explore the South Coast and take an optional tour.
You will head to the South Coast to see impressive waterfalls such as Seljalandsfoss waterfall and Skogafoss waterfall.
You'll also see the black sand wastelands under Solheimajokull glacier, the eerie coast of Reynisfjara black sand beach, and the grand sea stacks Reynisdrangar.
You'll see one of Iceland's most well-known volcanoes, Eyjafjallajokull, which famously caused flights all over Europe to be canceled in 2010.
A possible additional option today is to go glacier hiking on the fantastic Solheimajokull glacier, where experienced and knowledgeable guides will teach you the basics of ice climbing and where you can feel the power of nature at its height.
For those who wish to see as much as possible, you can instead opt for a more extended tour that heads out to the Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon.
It is quite a trip, but well worth it, to see colossal icebergs that have fallen from the Breidamerkurjokull glacier tongue float on the lagoon's surface.
The third choice is a particularly unique one. You can take a trip to the Thrihnukagigur volcano, where you can descend more than 328 feet (100 meters) down into its magma chamber and behold the fantastic array of colors gleaming on the volcanic rock surface.
Exploring a magma chamber is truly the opportunity of a lifetime, as this is the only place in the world where you can see such a sight.
Most magma chambers are filled with hardened lava as they collapse in on themselves after they erupt, whereas the Thrihnukagigur volcano emptied for some reason. Please note that these tours are only available from May to October.
No matter your choice, you will have a brilliant day in Iceland.
Tonight, you'll return to your accommodation in Reykjavik and spend your last night in Iceland there.

All great adventures come to an end. When your departure time comes around, you will be picked up at your hotel and taken to Keflavik International Airport in time for your flight.

For those who have a later flight and choose to visit the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa today, you will finish your stay unwinding before heading to the airport.
The Blue Lagoon geothermal spa is the perfect place to relax as you bathe in the warm, mineral-rich waters and reflect on the incredible adventure you have just taken in the land of fire and ice.
