Golden Circle Super Jeep Adventure with Optional Snowmobiling
Description
Summary
Description
Explore the Golden Circle by super jeep, and add on a bonus snowmobile trip on Langjökull glacier, with this immersive day tour. Those eager to sightsee and make the most of Iceland’s adventure opportunities without being part of a large, impersonal group should make sure that they book this excursion.
After your pick-up in Reykjavík, you’ll set out on Iceland’s most famous sightseeing route, the Golden Circle. There are three main destinations on this trail: Þingvellir National Park and UNESCO World Heritage area, the Geysir Geothermal Area, and Gullfoss Waterfall.
Þingvellir National Park is located directly between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, leading to some incredible geology and landscapes. It is framed by the cliffs that make up their edges and riddled with ravines and crevasses. These cracks fill with spring water, which feeds into the largest lake in Iceland, Þingvallavatn, which sits adjacent.
The valley’s National Park and UNESCO World Heritage status come from its history. In 930 AD here, early Icelandic settlers formed a national assembly that continues today in Reykjavík; it is the world’s longest ongoing parliament.
Geysir Geothermal Area tells you exactly what to expect of it in its name. A region of hot springs, fumaroles and vents, this is where Iceland’s most famous geysers can be found. Geysir itself, the feature that is the namesake of all others like it, is going through a period of inactivity, but Strokkur, which sits just metres away, goes off every five to ten minutes. Its column of water can sometimes reach heights of forty metres.
You will either have lunch here or at Gullfoss, the final point of the Golden Circle. Otherwise known as the Golden Waterfall, this two-tiered marvel has been inspiring people for centuries. It is a feature of the popular Hvíta rafting river, and its water originates at Langjökull glacier.
If you choose it to be when booking, Langjökull will be your next destination, for your snowmobiling tour. To scale and rush across the surface of the second largest ice cap in Europe is an exhilarating experience, and exposes you to magnificent highland views.
You must have a driver’s license to operate a snowmobile, and two guests share a snowmobile unless you make other arrangements.
After this adventure - or just after Gullfoss if you elected to keep this tour as a strictly sightseeing one - you will begin your journey back to Reykjavík. En route, however, you will make a stop that most Golden Circle excursions overlook at Kerið Crater Lake. This feature is beloved for its scale and its intense colours; the deep blue water contrasts starkly with the surrounding rocks, which are dyed vividly red by iron deposits.
Immerse yourself in the Golden Circle, and spice up the trip with a snowmobile tour. Check availability by choosing a date.
