Exciting 4.5-Hour Langjokull Snowmobile and Ice Caving Tour from Skjol
Description
Summary
Description
Discover one of Iceland's largest glaciers before heading to a captivating ice cavern in this snowmobile and ice-caving tour from Skjol. This 4.5-hour adventure takes travelers to Langjokull glacier for a snowmobile ride, followed by exploring a natural ice cave in the Langjokull area.
The action begins when a friendly local guide picks you up from Skjol Campground, about 3.9 miles (6.3 kilometers) from the Gullfoss waterfall. You'll then ride a comfortable super truck and head to the snowmobile base at the foot of Langjokull glacier.
If you go on a clear day, you'll be treated to majestic views of the Kerlingafjoll Mountains, the Hofsjokull glacier, and the Eiriksjokull glacier, West Iceland's tallest mountain. Upon reaching the snowmobile base, your guide will first give you a brief background of the snowmobile adventure. They will then teach you the basics of operating a snowmobile and provide safety tips.
They will also give you all the necessary safety equipment, such as a helmet and other protective gear. What's great about this adventure is that it doesn't matter if it's your first time riding a snowmobile. After wearing all the safety equipment, you'll ride and drive your snowmobile.
For one solid hour, you'll ride across the Langjokull glacier and enjoy its breathtaking beauty. Langjokull glacier's name fittingly translates to "Long Glacier" as it covers an area of approximately 368 square miles (953 square kilometers). Its expansive icy terrain stretches across the Icelandic interior, surpassed only by the Vatnajokull glacier.
Besides its remarkable size, Langjokull glacier boasts captivating beauty and vast natural wonders. As you explore the glacier, you'll see stunning ice formations, including crevasses, ice caves, and seracs, sculpted over centuries by nature.
Next, the guide will lead the way toward the stunning Langjokull ice cave. Compared to other glaciers in Iceland, the Langjokull glacier is much whiter. In turn, the ice cave showcases bright, translucent blue ice comparable to blue-hued quartz crystal jewels.
As you explore the ice cave, you'll notice streaks of subtle gray embedded in the ice. These stripes are ash layers that are remnants of previous volcanic eruptions. Travelers will have 15 minutes to explore the ice cave and take photos of this naturally-occurring wonder.
After getting up close and personal with the Langjokull glacier, you'll drive your snowmobile back to the snowmobile base camp. From there, the guide will take you back to the Skjol Campground on an incredible supertruck.
Take advantage of this opportunity to conquer one of Iceland's most celebrated glaciers in this 4.5-hour Langjokull snowmobile and ice-caving tour. Check availability now by choosing a date.
