Description

Join us on a unique and memorable trip to a hidden part of Iceland, in a comfortable minibus. Guests on this tour will experience a rural adventure with rivers, mountain view, a waterfall, lava-fields, a hot spring and birdlife. A full day packed with extraordinary places that Iceland has to offer. There are quite a few artisans in the area as you will see in the workshops as well as farm lodgings, country boutiques, and so much more.

Depending on what suits your needs the best, you can either select a pickup place of your choice or come to our office where the tour departures from at 9 am every morning.

Leaving the capital, we head east towards our first stop, Urriðafoss, Iceland’s largest waterfall concerning water quantity. The waterfall belongs to Þjórsá, Iceland's longest river, around 230 km long. Next stop on this tour is at a charming museum of wood and artistic craftsmanship, called Tré og List, which is full of beautiful pieces made by the local farmer.

After stopping at this artisan museum, the next stop is at the Old Icelandic Farmhouses. There, guests can step into an old turf house and learn about sustainable architecture from many years ago.

From there we'll head to Strandakirkja, a rural church located a stone's throw from the beach, where the bitterly cold sea meets harsh volcanic rocks and black sand. This church is located on the South Coast of Iceland, in Selvogur.

Driving even further out on the Reykjanes peninsula, the next stop is at Krísuvíkurbjarg, stunning black cliffs. Here, thousands of seabirds nest. You can hike along the trail to the edge of the cliffs where it's possible to spot kittiwakes, guillemots, razorbills, and other birds as they dive into the sea. Close by is our next stop, Seltangar. Seltangar is a fishing settlement which was abandoned in 1880. There, an assortment of crude stone foundations for huts and storehouses can be seen. Former residents claimed they were chased out by a ghost named "Tumi."

Now we are headed out to the second last stop on this tour, Krísuvík; a geothermal area where you can take a walk between the boiling mud puddles and smell the sulfates  The last stop is then at nearby Kleifarvatn lake, which is nestled below a steep mountain. The seemingly deserted space is an attractive spot for a quiet walk over small black lava rocks.

In the evening, we will head back to the centre of Reykjavík where our day together ends. Make sure you don’t miss the change to see the places that not everyone visits. Check availability by choosing a date.
