Description
Explore Dynjandi waterfall, one of Iceland's most incredible natural sights, by booking this fantastic guided excursion. Those eager to tick one of Iceland's most beautiful waterfalls off their bucket list and visit a traditional Icelandic farm should book this exciting tour now.
Your tour starts when you meet your guide at Isafjordur port. You'll board a comfortable coach and meet the rest of your group. You can ask your knowledgeable driver any questions as you travel through the picturesque landscapes of the Westfjords.
During the drive to Dynjandi waterfall, you'll pass through mountain tunnels and see the incredible landscapes Iceland is famous for, including dramatic mountains and picturesque fjords.
Dynjandi waterfall, or "Thunderer," is about 50 miles (roughly 80 kilometers) south of Isafjordur. It's the largest waterfall in the region and one of the most beautiful. Locals often refer to it as "the jewel of the Westfjords."
The waterfall cascades almost 330 feet (about 100 meters) down a rugged hillside. It's about 100 feet (roughly 30 meters) wide at the top and 196 feet (around 60 meters) wide at the bottom. Dynjandi has a triangular appearance, which looks similar to a bridal veil.
During the summer, almost 282 cubic feet (8 cubic meters) of water flow from Dynjandi waterfall per second. This water flow drastically decreases in winter to about 35 cubic feet (1 cubic meter) per second.
You can hike to the top of Dynjandi waterfall during your visit. As you head up, you'll pass six smaller waterfalls, including Haestahjallafoss, Strompgljufrafoss, Gongumannafoss, Hrisvadsfoss, Hundafoss, and Baejarfoss waterfalls.
The walk to the top takes about 15 minutes along a rocky path volunteers built in 1996. If you don't want to hike to the top, you can enjoy the views from the parking lot.
Dynjandi's waterfall and surroundings are great places to connect with nature. You can meditate or relax here before you get back on the bus to continue to your next stop, a working farm in Gemlufall.
Here, you'll learn how an Icelandic farm works and can enjoy a warm drink with those working here. You'll also taste Hjonabandssaela, a sweet traditional Icelandic cake translating to "Happy Marriage."
The cake isn't called this because it is served at a wedding but because it's thought to contain all the ingredients behind a happy marriage. The recipe, combining oats and rhubarb jam, was first created in 1950.
After your trip to the farm, your guide will drive you back to Isafjordur port. On the way back, you can enjoy the breathtaking landscapes of the Westfjords.
Take advantage of the chance to enjoy one of Iceland's most impressive natural wonders with an unforgettable 3.5-hour Dynjandi waterfall and farm tour. Check availability now by choosing a date.
