Your Diamond Circle guided tour begins in Akureyri, where a vehicle will pick you up. At Akureyri, you'll meet your expert guide, who'll assist your group and answer your questions.
This tour can last between nine to 10 hours, so make sure to prepare well. Wear warm layered clothing and a pair of walking shoes for your footgear.
Food is not included in this tour package, although you'll be visiting a cafe during one of your stops. You'll also want a bottle of water.
Once you depart from Akureyri, you'll pass by the beautiful Eyjafjordur, one of the longest fjords in Iceland, before seeing the Godafoss waterfall. Godafoss, or the "Waterfall of the Gods," is a fantastic sight due to its beauty and fascinating history.
From Godafoss, you'll visit Lake Myvatn, arguably the most famous lake in Iceland. Aside from the lake, Myvatn is also surrounded by breathtaking and unique sights. Fortunately, you'll stay for more than an hour at Myvatn, so you'll have time to take pictures of its surroundings while exploring them.
To the south of Myvatn are the beautiful Skutustadagigar pseudocraters. These pseudocraters formed thousands of years ago and are now famous for birdwatching.
You'll also visit Dimmuborgir, known as the "Dark Fortress" due to its enormous rock formations resembling castles' wall ruins. Then there's Grjotagja cave with a beautiful thermal spring inside.
The Icelandic Yule Lads, or Christmas Trolls, are said to live in this area, and it was used as a shooting location for Game of Thrones.
To the east of the lake, you'll also spend some time at the Namafjall and Hverir geothermal areas. The sights at Namafjall and Hverir will make you feel like you're on another planet. You'll see colorful terrain with geothermal pools, bubbling mud pools, and steaming fumaroles.
From Myvatn, you'll travel to the Vatnajokull National Park to visit two waterfalls, Dettifoss and Selfoss.
Dettifoss, hailed to be the most powerful waterfall in Europe, is 150 feet (45 meters) tall. Its massive volume of water originates from the largest glacier in Europe, Vatnajokull.
Not far from Dettifoss is the stunning Selfoss waterfall, which has a height of 36 feet (11 meters), and a width of 330 feet (100 meters).
Your last stop for this tour is the Myvatn Nature Baths which has blue waters rich in minerals. Make sure to bring a swimsuit and towel if you want to avoid renting. The admission fee for the nature baths is not included in the package, so make sure you prepare some extra money.
After your relaxing stay at the nature baths, you'll return to Akureyri, where your tour officially ends.
