Description
Book this incredible guided excursion to explore some of Iceland's most famous natural attractions, including the Golden Circle, and go snowmobiling on the Langjokull glacier. Those eager to see waterfalls, geothermal areas, and spectacular landscapes and then try driving a snowmobile should book this small-group tour now.
Your adventure starts at the meeting point in Reykjavik. You'll meet the expert local guide leading the tour and the other participants. This excursion is a small-group trip with a maximum of eight guests. Small-group tours are fantastic, as you'll get plenty of time to ask your guide questions.
The Golden Circle is Iceland's most popular sightseeing route. The first stop on the tour is Thingvellir National Park, which has great historical and geological significance — it's where the Icelandic Parliament, the Althing, was established in 930 AD. The Althing is one of the world's oldest democratic parliaments.
The park sits on the boundary between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates and offers unique geological features, including rift valleys and fissures.
Visitors can explore its rugged landscapes, including mountains, scenic waterfalls, lakes, and lava fields. Thingvellir is also a UNESCO World Heritage site, reflecting its cultural importance and natural beauty.
Next, you'll visit the Geysir geothermal area. This area in the Haukadalur valley is known for its hot springs and geysers. The area features the Great Geysir, which gave its name to all geysers worldwide.
Geysir is now inactive, but the nearby Strokkur geyser remains highly active, erupting every 5–10 minutes and reaching heights of up to 66 feet (20 meters). The geothermal area also includes bubbling mud pots and steaming vents, showcasing Iceland's geothermal activity.
The final stop on the Golden Circle sightseeing route is the mighty Gullfoss waterfall, located in the canyon of the Hvita river. It is one of the country's most iconic natural attractions.
The waterfall consists of two stages: an upper cascade of around 36 feet (11 meters) and a lower one of about 69 feet (21 meters), creating a dramatic 105-foot (32-meter drop) into a narrow, rugged canyon.
In the summer, the glacial runoff enhances its powerful flow, while ice formations add a unique beauty in winter.
Next, you'll have lunch before starting your snowmobile adventure on the Langjokull glacier. Your experienced glacier guide will give you all the necessary safety equipment and a thorough briefing, including instructions on driving the snowmobile.
Your guide will lead your group in a single file on a high-speed route over the glacier. You'll be out for around an hour before heading back.
At the end of the tour, your driver will take you back to the meeting point in Reykjavik.
Don't miss this incredible experience, exploring the Golden Circle sights of Iceland before a thrilling snowmobile ride. Check availability now by choosing a date.
