Set out on a two-day exploration of South Iceland’s top attractions by joining this small group tour. Tourists who want to get up-close-and-personal to the majestic waterfalls of Iceland like Gullfoss and walk atop a massive glacier wouldn’t want to miss this excellent opportunity.
Your incredible adventure in Iceland begins in Reykjavik with a complimentary pick-up service from your accommodation. For two days, your small group will journey into the natural wonders of the South Coast aboard a minibus with free Wi-Fi, so you can post photos as you explore the attractions.
On the first day, you will visit three of the most popular sites in Iceland. The Golden Circle, a tourist route that spans 190 miles (300 kilometers), is home to the Thingvellir National Park, Geysir geothermal area, and the Gullfoss waterfall.
The tour will take you first to Thingvellir National Park, where you will see the astonishing spectacle of continental plates drifting apart. The attraction is also a place of great historical and cultural significance for Icelanders, home to the country’s first parliament.
The other two stops on your Golden Circle tour are the Geysir area and the Gullfoss waterfall, two attractions showcasing the power of Iceland’s nature.
Before retiring to your night’s accommodation in the charming town of Hveragerdi, you will stop by the Kerid crater. The caldera slopes are a sight to behold because of their distinct red color and lush green mosses. There is also a shallow lake with azure waters in the middle of Kerid.
On the second and last day of your South Coast sightseeing tour, you will be thrilled by more breathtaking views, from more astonishing waterfalls, glacier-topped mountains, and a scenic black sand beach.
Your day begins on a high note with a visit to not one but three awe-inspiring waterfalls. The Seljalandsfoss, Gljufrabui, and Skogafoss waterfalls are gems of the South Coast because of their massive and beautiful cascading waters.
At Seljalandsfoss waterfall, you can have a unique viewing experience as the cliff of the attraction allows tourists to view it from any angle. On the other hand, the Skogafoss waterfall is one of the biggest in the land of fire and ice, with a drop of 200 feet (60 meters). You can enjoy a beautiful rainbow above its cold waters on a sunny day.
The day’s highlight is a glacier hiking adventure on the frozen wilderness of Solheimajokull glacier. Your small group tour will take part in nearly two hours of walking on ice and exploring glacial landscapes from ice walls to crevasses. It is a thrilling experience that you will never forget.
Before returning to Reykjavik, having explored the highlights of the Icelandic South Coast, you will have one last stop at the world-famous black sand beach of Reynisfjara.

Day 1 - The Golden Circle of Iceland
The first day of your small group tour begins with a pick-up from your hotel in Rekjavik. Your small group will ride on a comfortable minibus with free Wi-Fi and USB charging ports for your convenience.
The fun adventure kicks off as you travel east of the capital, 29 miles (47 kilometers) to reach your first destination. You’ll pass through striking sceneries of South Iceland, seeing the massive presence of Mount Esja and other landscapes, before arriving at the first attraction of the Golden Circle.
Iceland’s Golden Circle is one of the most famous tourist routes in the land of fire and ice, home to the Thingvellir National Park, Geysir geothermal area, and the Gullfoss waterfall. Its proximity to Iceland’s capital makes it an ideal destination for visitors.
Thingvellir is a place of great historical significance for Icelanders, being home to the first ever parliament of the Nordic country called the Althingi. Likewise, it is also a site of geological wonder because it is the only place in the world where you can visibly see the rift separating the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates.
The next stop on your Golden Circle tour is Geysir, the highlight of the Haukadalur geothermal area. Bubbling with hot spring activity, this is the place that gave geysers all over the world their name.
Strokkur is the most active, erupting every five to ten minutes.
The last stop on the Golden Circle is the Gullfoss waterfall. The “Golden Falls” is a two-step waterfall fed by the nearby Langjokull glacier with freezing meltwater. Gullfoss presents an excellent opportunity to take landscape photos and see rainbows.
Finally, your last destination of the day is the Kerid volcanic crater. Inside the breathtaking attraction lies a shallow turquoise-colored lake, making Kerid one of the most stunning sights in Iceland.
You will spend the night in a cozy accommodation in Hveragerdi, a charming town famous for its geothermally heated greenhouses.
Day 2 - South Coast Waterfalls and Glacier Hiking
Day two of your tour in Iceland begins with a sumptuous breakfast at your accommodation.
The first South Coast tourist site you will explore on this day is the Seljalandsfoss waterfall. The cascading waters of this waterfall drop from a cliff of 200 feet (60 meters). Although there are thousands of waterfalls in Iceland, Seljalandsfoss easily stands out because you can fully encircle its waters.
Not far from Seljalandsfoss is a lesser-known waterfall called Gljufrabui. Nature lovers will enjoy this natural wonder tucked away in a cave because of its hidden location.
Next on your trip is the beautiful Skogafoss waterfall. This majestic waterfall cascades from a cliff width of 82 feet (25 meters), a reason why it creates large amounts of spray. It’s easy to see rainbows on-site when visiting on a sunny day, and you can view the waterfall from the top or at its base.
Just a few miles from Skogafoss waterfall is where your small group will experience one of the highlights of the excursion. At Solheimajokull glacier, you will have nearly two hours to explore otherworldly landscapes while walking on ice. You will see here dramatic ice formations, from deep crevasses to moulins and ice ridges.
Before hiking on top of the outlet glacier, your guide will provide you with the necessary equipment you need. They will also teach and guide you on how to properly and safely walk on ice.
To end your two-day South Coast essentials tour on a high note, you will have a quick stop at the Reynisfjara black sand beach. Although you won’t be able to swim in the area because of the massive Atlantic waves, you will enjoy exploring the scenic coast, especially its hexagonal basalt columns and cliffs.
Soon after, you’ll return to Reykjavik with unforgettable photos and memories of the land of fire and ice.
