Location & Nearby

The Hrimland Apartments are central in Akureyri, just across the road from the town’s harbor. This port is renowned as one of the best places to embark on whale watching tours, particularly in summer when puffins and great whales return from their migrations. Even in winter, however, you can regularly see white-beaked dolphins, harbor porpoises, and some humpback whales.

Other attractions in downtown Akureyri are also within easy walking distance. The beautiful church of Akureyrarkirkja is under half a mile (700 meters) away, and the botanical garden, one of the world’s northernmost, is around a mile (1.5 kilometers) south.

The town also boasts a wealth of amenities and services. You’ll find lovely boutiques, esteemed restaurants, relaxing cafes, and lively bars to keep you entertained, on top of conveniences like gas stations, supermarkets, and tour information centers.

Many tour operators work in Akureyri and can also escort you from your accommodation into the landscapes of the north for a range of adventures such as horseback riding, river rafting, and northern lights hunting. Furthermore, those renting a car can access many incredible natural attractions from the capital of the north with ease.

The breathtaking historic waterfall of Godafoss is 21.5 miles (34.5 kilometers) east and is considered the first site of the Diamond Circle sightseeing route. You can continue to the Myvatn area to witness sites such as the Dimmuborgir lava fortress, Namaskard geothermal area, and Lake Myvatn itself, 28 miles (45 kilometers) further.

The furthest sites on this route are Dettifoss waterfall and Asbyrgi canyon, 48.5 miles (78 kilometers) and 56 miles (90 kilometers) from Myvatn. The former is the most powerful waterfall in Europe, while the latter boasts breathtaking forests and cliffs that stand around 330 feet (100 miles) tall.

The Hlidarfjall ski resort is only five miles (eight kilometers) from the Hrimland Apartments, and they all have space for ski equipment.

Of the 16 Hrimland Apartments, there are two variants. One can accommodate two in a twin bedroom, and the other can lodge four with an additional sofa bed. All the suites have fully equipped kitchens, allowing you to self-cater, and a private bathroom with a shower. You’ll also find a large living area with a television and a comfortable dining area.

The style throughout is modern, open, and bright, and some flats have balconies overlooking the spectacular bay of Eyjafjordur. Because of their position near the harbor, winter guests may thus witness the northern lights over the dark seas from their suite.
