Miðhraun – Lava resort
Description
Summary
Description
Lava Water is a beautiful set of houses, apartments and cottages on the magnificent Snaefellsnes Peninsula. Whether you are a solo traveller or a group of up to fifteen seeking a remote place to stay in the unforgettable nature of this region, there is an option here for you.
Location & Nearby
There are few more appealing places to stay in Iceland than Lava Water, due to its location on the southern shore of the spectacular Snaefellsnes Peninsula. This region has the well-earned nickname ‘Iceland in Miniature’ due to the unbelievable diversity of its sites, all of which can be reached with ease.
For example, the windswept church of Budir is less than thirty minutes away, as is the seal-watching beach of Ytri Tunga. The magnificent Mount Kirkjufell is about forty minutes north, whereas the Snaefellsjokull National Park and glacier, with all its surrounding attractions such as the Londrangar sea stacks and the village of Arnarstapi, can be reached in an hour.
Lava Water sits on a farm named Midhraun Gisting, providing exceptional views from each window of the accommodation and the chance to meet Icelandic sheep. If travelling during winter, its remoteness makes it perfect for marvelling over the Northern Lights on clear nights.
In spite of its far-flung location, the town of Stykkisholmur is only twenty minutes away, where you can find amenities such as restaurants, gas stations and so on.
Facilities & Amenities
Lava Water has a wide range of different accommodation options to suit different group sizes, budgets, and personal requirements. Each building, however, has its own fully equipped kitchen, access to free and fast Wifi, and stunning natural surroundings.
Ommu Hus and Fjosid are large houses that can be booked either in their entirety or on a room by room basis. The former can accommodate up to 10, or else five separate pairs. Some of the twin rooms have private bathrooms, and the more affordable ones have shared. The latter, meanwhile, can host up to 15, with twin, triple and quad rooms, all with shared bathrooms.
Groups of up to eight will find the Hlidin four-bedroom apartment a perfect choice; smaller companies of four, meanwhile, will find the Hlidin two-bedroom apartment a better fit. Parties of up to six have the option to rent the entire Hraun house themselves, and all of these options have their own bathroom facilities.
There is even a tiny cottage, Molakot, which is perfectly equipped for a solo traveller looking for a remote escape.
