Summary
Description
Hotel Dalvik is a fantastic choice of accommodation on the coast of North Iceland, with everything from budget dorms to private bungalows. Whether traveling alone, with a partner, or as part of a larger group, you will enjoy its range of rooms, fantastic location, and modern amenities.
Location and Nearby
Hotel Dalvik is located in Dalvik, a village on the fjord of Eyjafjordur in North Iceland. The settlement offers a range of shops, restaurants, and other services, and some tour operators can pick you up from here. Far more amenities, however, can be found at Akureyri, the capital of the region, which is just 27 miles (43 kilometers) to the south.
Both Dalvik and Akureyri are renowned for whale watching, especially in the summer when seabirds such as puffins and great whales such as humpbacks return to the waters. Most whale watching companies boast 100 percent sighting ratings in this season. White-beaked dolphins and harbor porpoises are also very common here. As such, Hotel Dalvik is a fantastic base for those passionate about wildlife.
North Iceland is a beautiful region with countless attractions that are easy to reach from the accommodation. Godafoss waterfall, a historical and natural site, is 48 miles (77 kilometers) away. This feature is the first attraction of the famous Diamond Circle sightseeing route.
From Godafoss waterfall, you can reach the Lake Myvatn area, a beautiful wilderness with stunning bodies of water and fascinating geological marvels, by driving 28 miles (45 kilometers) further. The lava fortress of Dimmuborgir, Namaskard geothermal area, and Myvatn Nature Baths are three highlights all guests should visit here. You can then continue 48 miles (78 kilometers) to reach Dettifoss, the most powerful waterfall in Europe, a stark and breathtaking feature.
Asbyrgi Canyon, an additional Diamond Circle site, is a further 19 miles (30 kilometers). This magical spot is a haven for hikers due to the forests, sheer cliffs, and countless trails running through the area.
Hotel Dalvik is also close to many lesser-known sites of the north. The Beer Baths, a spa where you can bathe in young beer for its healing properties, are 8 miles (13 kilometers) south. Siglufjordur, a beautiful village nestled in a fjord of the same name, is 22 miles (35 kilometers) away.
Facilities and Amenities
Hotel Dalvik offers a range of rooms and other lodgings to suit travelers of different budgets and sizes. The most affordable choice is a bed in a shared dormitory, while the twin and quadruple rooms with shared bathrooms are also budget-friendly. Those seeking more privacy can book twin or double rooms with separate facilities. These rooms share a fully furnished, spacious kitchen, a dining area, and a communal TV room.
Alternatively, you can book a suite or a bungalow if you want a personal kitchen and living area. The junior suite can accommodate three, while the bungalow is the best bet for families as it can sleep four.
All guests have access to free WiFi, parking, and breakfast. The lobby has a bar and a computer you are welcome to use, and outside there is a deck and picnic area.
