Kex is located just back from Reykjavik’s seafront, two roads down from the main shopping street of Laugavegur. This places it close to many major attractions. Hallgrimskirkja church and the Harpa Concert Hall, the two greatest feats of architecture in the city, are only ten minutes away on foot, whereas the downtown area, which boasts a wealth of galleries, museums, and bars, is less than 20.

The hostel is also close to the Hlemmur bus station, where you can easily access the more distant Reykjavik sites, such as Grotta lighthouse, and the surrounding nature, such as the Reykjadalur hot spring valley and Mount Esja.

Kex is a very large hostel, with rooms to accommodate guests of all budgets. Most are dorms in which you can rent a bed, with the pricier and more private choice being a four-bed-dorm, and the most affordable and social option having 42 beds.

Most of these dormitories are mixed, although there is a six-bed room exclusively for women. It is also possible to book a private room for groups of two, four and six.

For all of these options, you will have access to shared bathrooms and showers; however, there are double-plus rooms that have access to private facilities. Those staying in these larger rooms will also be blessed with stunning views from the windows and luxurious bedding, as well as free access to breakfast. Others have access to breakfast for a cost, but there are also large, fully furnished kitchens on each floor.

Kex is best renowned for its fantastic bar, which has a unique ambiance since the building is a converted biscuit factory. Live music is regularly played here, and the jazz is particularly well renowned.
