Summary
Description
Located on a beautiful farm that is home to many Icelandic horses, the two villas at Skeidvellir are fantastic choices of accommodation for those who want to immerse themselves in the nature of south Iceland, close to the major sites of the Golden Circle and South Coast. If you are eager to go riding or simply want a self-catering experience away from the hubbub of Reykjavik, be sure to read on!
Location & Nearby
Skeidvellir is surrounded by rural bliss, 15 minutes north of the agricultural town of Hella (which has a wealth of amenities for travelers, such as grocery stores and gas stations). Though it appears to be far-flung, there are a wealth of incredible attractions within easy driving distance.
All three destinations of the world-famous Golden Circle sightseeing route - Thingvellir National Park, the Geysir Geothermal Area, and Gullfoss waterfall - are all only around an hour away. The first major site of the South Coast route, meanwhile, a waterfall you can walk behind named Seljalandfoss, is only 40 minutes away. From here, you can easily reach more of the region’s attractions like Solheimajokull glacier and the Reynisfjara black sand beach.
The villas are approximately one and a half hours from Reykjavik.
Facilities & Amenities
The largest of the accommodations at Skeidvellir is Skeidvellir Villa, which covers 110 square meters over three bedrooms; it can thus accommodate six. It has a fully equipped kitchen, a bathroom with a shower, and a living area with a TV and DVD player. Furthermore, it has lovely views over the surrounding nature; from the windows, you’ll be able to see the Westman Islands, Hekla volcano, and Langjokull glacier.
The smaller option is Skeidvellir Panorama, which covers 48 square meters and has one double bedroom for two. It has the same bathroom and kitchen facilities, similar views from the windows, and a small living room with a TV. Its name comes from the fact that it has an encircling patio, perfect for admiring the Midnight Sun or Northern Lights, depending on the season.
Linens and towels are provided for all guests, as is free Wifi and parking. Horseback riding tours can be arranged with ease from the adjacent horse farm, and you are welcome to meet these friendly animals. This breed of horse has been genetically isolated for a millennium, and are smarter, smaller, gentler, and more intelligent than their generic counterparts.
Why Choose Skeidvellir?
The Skeidvellir Villas are a great choice for all solo travelers, couples or families, due to their immersion in the magnificent rural countryside, proximity to the major sites, and accessibility to friendly Icelandic horses. Check availability by choosing a date.
