Summary
Description
The Dalahyttur Lodges are a range of beautiful, comfortable rooms and cabins immersed in the spectacular landscapes of West Iceland. Those looking for a unique escape exploring this remarkable region should book their stay here while availability lasts.
Location & Nearby
Situated close to West Iceland, the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, and the Westfjords, the Dalahyttur Lodges make a fantastic base for those eager to see all three regions. Furthermore, they are immersed in rural landscapes and surrounded by dramatic landscapes.
There are few settlements nearby, with the nearest town, Stykkisholmur, being 47.5 miles (76.5 kilometers) west. Here, you can find grocery stores and other shops, as well as restaurants, cafes, and other amenities. This town is on the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, a region called 'Iceland in Miniature' due to its many different sites.
You'll find the dramatic peak of Kirkjufell, which featured on Game of Thrones, on the northern shore. The small waterfall of Kirkjufellsfoss sits right beside it. Slightly further along the coast from here is the Bjarnahofn shark museum, where you can try the notorious delicacy of hakarl, fermented shark.
On the southern shore, there are even more attractions. These include geological marvels such as the Londrangar basalt plug, Raudfeldsja gorge, and Gerduberg cliffs, and cultural attractions such as the church of Budir and the village of Arnarstapi. There is even a seal-watching beach called Ytri Tunga.
However, the highlight of Snaefellsnes is the subglacial volcano of Snaefellsjokull on the tip of the peninsula, surrounded by a national park of the same name.
The rest of West Iceland is similarly packed with attractions. The closest of these, the village of Reykholt, is 51.5 miles (83 kilometers) south, where you can learn about Iceland's history. From here, you can continue to the waterfalls of Hraunfossar and Barnafoss and the highest flowing hot spring in Europe, Deildartunghver.
The bridge leading to the Westfjords is 38 miles (61 kilometers) north. This primordial, little-explored region takes several days to explore fully, so the Dalahyttur Lodges are a great place to start and finish your travels. Animal lovers and those looking to escape the tourist crowds, in particular, should traverse this spectacular part of Iceland.
